DOE supports the delivery of free, transparent, and open communication of DOE-funded R&D through the collection and use of metadata and persistent identifiers (PIDs) for R&D results. PIDs enable greater discovery, attribution, and interoperability of research outputs - helping to reduce administrative burden and uphold scientific and research integrity at DOE.

DOE has developed policies and guidance around the use of persistent identifiers. The policies and guidance were developed in response to White House memos that include PID expectations.
