General Electric`s Marine and Industrial Division (M and I) has launched the development of the LM2500+ gas turbine targeted for a 1996 field service introduction. The LM2500+ is a 18--25% increased power derivative of the LM2500. This 37-39,000 SHP-class machine achieves the extra power by increasing the compressor airflow 23% and the combustor firing temperature by 35 C (65 F). The current production six stage power turbine is modified to upgrade its power capability. In addition, a new 6,100 rpm high speed power turbine is under development. This paper describes the LM2500+ concept, basic engine, expected performance, and development program.
