High-speed power turbine for LM2500 + gas generator

Since the introduction, a concurrent engineering program has been carried out by the R&D departments of both Nuovo Pignone and GE M&I to develop a two-stage, high-speed power turbine (HSPT) for the LM2500+ gas turbine. The new HSPT was designed for use in mechanical drive applications - mainly pipeline centrifugal compressors - as well as for electric power generation. In power generation applications, the HSPT would drive through a reduction gear to four-pole generators turning at 1500 or 1800 r/min for 50 and 60 Hz operation, respectively. The two-stage HSPT has been optimized for operation at 6100 r/min in order to match the speed of 30 MW-class compressors. This paper describes briefly the design, efficiency and performance rating of the generator.
