Proposed ASHRAE standards hit

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)

Critics of the energy conservation standards proposed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (ASHRAE) for existing industrial buildings have responded with a flood of objections and recommendations. The main objection to ASHRAE's proposal pertains to how an industrial building is defined. Critics claim the standards were set as if the buildings were used for commercial purposes. They object to ASHRAE's not identifying energy-intensive processes and point out areas of the draft that need further clarification and analysis. Recommendations include omitting the whole section on electrical distribution systems and defining an energy audit that will break down energy use in more useful detail. (DCK)
