Journal Article · · Electr. Light Power (Boston); (United States)
OSTI ID:7212439
Performances in 1976 of the 50 largest locally-owned and operated electric utilities are reviewed in terms of growth in customers (2.8 percent), revenues (17.5 percent) and income (9.5 percent). Heavy residential and commercial concentration caused an overall increase in kilowatt-hour sales of 7 percent, generation and transmission cooperatives (G and Ts) having the largest increase at 8.7 percent. Eighteen of the 20 top publicly owned utilities had sales gains, the other two having been affected by drought conditions on the West Coast. Compared to the electric industry as a whole, growth in sales and customers served was higher for the locally owned and operated utilities, but net income was lower. Details for public power organization (excluding Federal), G and Ts, and distribution cooperatives are summarized in three tables. (DCK)
