The Circum-Pacific Map Project is a cooperative international effort designed to show the relation of known energy and mineral resources to the major geologic features of the Pacific basin and surrounding continental areas. The map of the Northeast Quadrant depicts known energy deposits from Alaska to northern Peru. This multicolored map is published at a scale of 1:10,000,000 and attempts to provide a unified overview of the energy resources of the northeast part of the Circum-Pacific region. In the notes, sedimentary basins containing giant oil and gas field (greater than 500 million barrels or 3 trillion cubic feet) are shown on page-sized maps together with relevant geologic and production data. Major oil and gas fields along the Pacific margin of North and South America (greater than 100 million barrels and 600 billion cubic feet) are shown on index maps. Additional information is presented on coal, oil sand, and geothermal convection systems. The geologic map alone is worth a look, because it synthesizes a wealth of geologic data for an extremely large area. The map and booklet are successful in portraying the broad scope of energy resources present in the region.
