The distribution of recoil energies for chlorine-38 produced in the /sup 37/Cl(n..gamma..) /sup 38/Cl nuclear reaction is calculated using the prompt gamma ray spectrum for the process. The average recoil energy is found to be 294 eV and the most probable value for the recoil distribution below the maximum recoil energy of 528 eV is 298 eV. Failure to bond rupture from organochlorine source molecules is estimated to contribute less than 0.2% of the total recoil events.
