Reactions of recoil chlorine. II. Chemical effects of $sup 37$Cl(n,$gamma$$)$$sup 38$Cl in binary mixtures of carbon tetrachloride with paraffins and alcohols

The reactions of recoil chlorine /sup 37/C(n, gamma )/sup 38/Cl in binary mixtures of carbon tetrachloride with n-hexane, cyclohexane, n-heptane, methanol, ethanol, and n-octanol were studied. The results are compared with those from similar mixtures in which chlorobenzene was used as a source of chlorine. No evidence was found for a dependence of chemical properties of the recoil atom upon the source molecule. Some discrepancies with previous results were observed which may be due to differences in radiation dose or experimental technique. (GE)
