Locally-owned utilities plan for the future while they build on performances in 1979

Journal Article · · Electr. Light Power (Boston); (United States)

Neither kilowatt-hour sales nor total revenues for the nation's fifty largest publicly and cooperatively-owned electric-utility organizations grew as fast in 1979 as they did the year before. The utilities did show better gains in customers served and net income or margin. Overall, the locally-owned organizations again out-performed the Top 100 investor-owned companies previously reported. The locally-owned utilities are moving aggressively to promote conservation programs. For example, the Tennessee Valley Authority, which feeds power to about 110 municipals and 50 co-operatives, has initiated programs ranging from energy audits to testing solar water heaters. 4 tables.
