Ships for transport of liquefied gases
The internally insulated spherical cargo tanks developed by Norway's Moss Rosenberg Verft A/S permit the elimination of both boiloff reliquefaction during the trip and refrigeration after docking; simplified cargo-handling and inert-gas systems; increased cargo capacity (no external insulation required); improved conditions for the application of the insulation; elimination of drying equipment for the space around the tanks and of the spray system in the tanks; and simplified tank-skirt reinforcement. The cargo tanks are mounted in the ship by cylindrical skirts extending from the hull to the equator of each tank. Each tank is internally insulated over its entire inner surface, including a central column containing the necessary pipes and appurtenant equipment. On a centrally mounted platform, a pivotable and movable boom is mounted to allow the inspection of the tank interior. Catwalks and ladders are arranged for inspection of the tank exterior.
