PUC has approved an LNG terminal site at Cojo Bay, near Point Conception, the location preferred by Western LNG Terminal Associates. PUC took into account the delay which would occur if Point Conception were bypassed. Site preparation can start in the spring 1979 and the first gas can be delivered from Indonesia in 1982 if other required permits are granted. Western LNG is planning to import 500 million cu ft/day of Indonesian gas and 400 million cu ft/day of South Alaskan gas. The Alaskan gas would begin arriving in 1983. PUC also approved construction of a 112 mi, 34 in. gas pipeline from the marine terminal northwest into Kern County, where it would connect with existing lines to northern and southern California. The line would eventually have a capacity of 1.3 billion cu ft/day. Additional wind, wave, and seismic studies must be performed to determine the safety of the site. Western LNG's own study shows that the site meets required standards.
