A 10-year summary of coal production and consumption also includes data on price, imports and exports, and reserves. The principal product is bituminous coal, while anthracite shows a decline since 1973 in contrast to lignite. Coal use continues to rise in the utility sector, but is declining in all other sectors. Price increases, starting in the late 1960s, jumped sharply after 1973 to parallel OPEC pricing, but coal now ranks below natural gas in price.
