U. S. gas, middle distillate supply seen adequate
According to a U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission survey, natural gas supplies should be adequate during the 1979-80 winter. The nine companies which have the authority to import about 1 trillion cu ft/yr from Canada are not taking all of the authorized volumes, leaving up to 2 trillion cu ft available over eight years. Injections into underground storage are on schedule. Of the nine pipeline companies which forecast a supply reduction, only two (Texas Eastern Transmission Corp. and Transwestern Pipeline Co.) expect substantial decreases. LNG imports into the East Coast should be equivalent to 150.4 billion cu ft, compared with 79.1 billion last winter. Studies and surveys by the U.S. Department of Energy show that heating oil and diesel and jet fuels are in adequate supply; the goal of 240 million bbl of middle distillates in storage by Oct. 1979 will be met.
