Pipeline and Gas Journal's annual survey of peak-shaving gas supplies available for the 1978-1979 winter season forecasts supplies at 68.62 billion cu ft/day (bcf/day) total, comprising 54.38 bcf/day from underground gas storage, 5.07 from propane-air plants, 8.77 from LNG peak-shaving and satellite plants, and 0.40 from other sources. Regularly contracted and scheduled natural gas supply will total 63.06 bcf/day, and the maximum demand capability is estimated at 131 bcf/day vs. the peak day total of 78.9 for 1977-1978 and projections that the peak day total for 1978-1979 will be 80-84 bcf/day. Underground gas storage expenditures in 1978 are estimated at $233.3 million and projected at $272.6 million for 1979. A tabulation shows the companies operating U.S. underground gas storage facilities in 1978, including number of fields, number of wells, miles of storage lines, and the number and horsepower of compressor stations. Other tabulations show U.S. and Canadian LNG peak-shaving facilities, separate tables of large and small satellite peak-shaving facilities, international LNG peak-shaving facilities, and European satellite peak-shaving facilities.
