Gas and steam turbine suppliers recently concluded another successful and highly active year. Vendors introduced market-tailored advancements to their product lines and continued to play a major role in power project development in strategic markets around the world. Increased competition in all areas of the power industry continue to drive developers and suppliers to new levels. Utilities and IPPs have a basic desire toporduce power at least cost, which, from a new equipment viewpoint, involves fuel and technology choices. this translates into choosing the lowest lifecycle cost as presented by a particular company`s technology or product line. Independent Energy examines a series of equipment awards recently announced by four vendors: ABB, GE Power Systems, Siemens Power Corp. and Westinghouse Electric Corp.
