Producing coke from hydrolysis lignins in a ring oven

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6803382
A regime was developed for coking hydrolysis lignin in a ring oven, permitting production of a high-quality reducing agent for electrometallurgical processes. It was shown that with regard to physicochemical properties the lignin coke is not inferior to traditional carbonaceous reducing agents, while for a number of indices, for example reaction capacity and specific electrical resistance, it is superior. An investigation of MnO reduction reactions showed that lignin coke is a better reducing agent for manganese ore than metallurgical coke. (JMT)
