A corrosion inhibitor is described for inhibiting corrosion of ferrous metals in an acid system. The system consists of adding a quaternary compound formed by the reaction of a polyepihalohydrin and a tertiary amine where the tertiary amine is a heterocyclic aromatic compound containing a tertiary nitrogen as part of the ring and is a member selected from the group consisting of pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline, alkyl derivatives thereof, and mixtures thereof.
