Corrosion of ferrous metals by corrosive acids at elevated temperatures is inhibited by adding to the corrosive acid a composition comprising effective amounts of the following: (1) at least one acetylenic alcohol; (2) a quaternary ammonium compound and/or an amine; (3) a surfactant; (4) an organic solvent; and (5) a formic acid compound selected from the group consisting of formate esters, the structure of which is given.
