West Texas' Delaware basin has been the scene of 3 successive world producing depth records in less than 18 mo. A fourth may be announced soon. Forest Oil's C.J. Walker No. 1 (21,793 ft) in Pecos County is still cleaning up. The latest record holder is Jake L. Hamon's Waples- Platter Co. No. 1 Ellenburger gas discovery in Reeves County, producing from 20,470-21,070 ft. This well's bottom perforations are 10 ft below previous record holder, Pure Oil Co.'s W.C. Tyrrell Nos. 1-2 in Pecos County. Five world depth records for a producing well were broken with the completion of Jake L. Hamon's Waples-Platter Co. No. 1. These records were as follows: (1) producing depth, 21,070 ft, lowest perforations; (2) selective gun perforation, 20,470-31,070 ft; (3) electric log, 1,304 ft of gross Ellenburger pay logged to 21,800 ft T.D.; (4) production stimulation; and (5) setting record for 8-5/8-in. OD protection casing, landed at 15,303 ft 8 in.
