National stripper well survey, January 1, 1977

The Interstate Oil Compact Commission (IOCC) published its annual National Stripper Well Survey for the period ending December 31, 1976. The numbers speak for themselves, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that the policy which favors extending the economic life of these wells is a sound one that is making a contribution to the economy of this nation. Recently, the IOCC became sufficiently concerned about the natural gas side of energy problems that it was decided to consider the status of the marginal gas well. Preliminary figures are being accumulated for wells producing less than 100,000 cfd. If some measures can be taken to extend the life of these wells, the Compact will have made another step toward alleviating a fuel shortage. The status of the stripper wells in each producing state is presented in tabular form.
