Comprehensive system for processing of anthracene-containing feedstock with production of anthracene, carbazole, and phenanthrene

Two methods of producing anthracene, carbazole, and phenanthrene from crude anthracene are described. Both methods yield a 96% anthracene product, about 95% carbazole product, and a 90% phenanthrene product. Solid materials from the production are used as a feedstock for carbon black. Although the two methods differ, they both include crystallization, extraction, and distillation. Block diagrams are included.
