Nippon Kokan K.K. has recently completed the construction of an offshore SBM (single-buoy mooring) terminal and connecting submarine pipeline at Kutch, India, for Indian Oil Corp. The capacity of the terminal and pipeline is 12,000 cu m/hr and maximum operating pressure is 15.8 kg/sq cm. The 42 in. dia submarine line is 5.3 km long. The 500 joints of API 5LX-60 pipe used for the line have a 0.563 in. wall thickness. A description is given of pipeline installation operation including coating and wrapping; application of concrete jacket; pipe joint welding; and excavation of the pipeline ditch. The SBM installation activities are also discussed, including installing chain anchor piling; installing pipeline end manifold piling, assembly and tie-in of underbuoy hoses; attaching and modifying SBM accessories; hydrostatic testing of the SBM system; and testing of the design strength of the anchor piling.
