A 56 inch dia submarine pipeline was completed in Okinawa, Japan, by Nippon Kokan K.K. on 5/24/79 for Okinawa CTS Corp. The 2.6 km pipeline connects the Okinawa Central Terminal Station (CTS) now under construction, and the terminal seaberth, located about 1.7 mi offshore. The seaberth can accommodate up to 500,000 dwt tankers. The pipeline incorporates 56 and 44 in. OD pipes for crude oil, 30 in. OD pipes for ballast, 3 in. OD pipes for nitrogen, and 2 in. OD pipes for city water. The depth varies from about 40 m near the seaberth to about 4.5 m in the area adjacent to the CTS.
