Structure of uranium-containing elpasolites M/sub 2/NaUH/sub 6/

The compounds M/sub 2/NaUH/sub 6/, where M = K, Rb, and Cs and H = Cl and Br, were obtained by melting binary components. The compound Rb/sub 2/NaUBr/sub 6/ decomposes into Rb/sub 2/UBr/sub 5/ and NaBr. The structure was studied by the polycrystal method: K/sub 2/NaUCl/sub 6/ has a hexagonal structure of the ..cap alpha..-K/sub 2/LiAlF/sub 6/ type, Rb/sub 2/NaUCl/sub 6/ is orthorhombic, and Cs/sub 2/NaUCl/sub 6/ type is F-cubic. K/sub 2/NaUBr/sub 6/ has a tetragonal structure of the Rb/sub 2/NaTmCl/sub 6/ type and Cs/sub 2/NaUBr/sub 6/ is P-cubic. The regularities in the elpasolite structure are discussed in the light of the method of genetic structure types.
