Crude oil is now flowing from 10 fields in the UK's northern oil area--from Argyll, Auk, Beryl, Brent, Piper, Claymore, Forties, Montrose, Dunlin, and Thistle. Only Forties, Beryl, Auk, and Argyll of the 10 are producing at full rate, with the others still building toward that target. Development programs are under way in 8 more oil fields--Buchan, Cormorant, Heather, Murchison, Ninian, Fulmar, Beatrice, and Tartan (also the UK portion of Statjord). Ninian and Heather are expected to produce their first oil before year-end. Cormorant and Buchan will go on stream next year; Murchison in 1980; and Tartan, Fulmar, and Beatrice in 1981. In addition, the Energy Department has development programs in hand for its approval for Magnus and N. Cormorant, and it was expecting proposals soon for Hutton, NW. Hutton, Maureen, and Brae fields. If its expectations are realized, that totals to 24 commercial oil fields in UK waters (25 counting British portion of Statfjord). Many more are still being appraised. A rundown on status in these and other UK fields is given.
