The Sullom Voe, Shetland Islands, G.B., terminal, operated by British Petroleum Co. Ltd., receives Britain's North Sea oil through two 36 in. undersea pipelines, the Brent and the Ninian, named after two major fields. The Brent system, jointly owned by Shell and Esso, includes Dunlin, South and North Cormorant, Thistle, Murchison, and Northwest Hutton fields, and the Ninian system includes Heather and Magnus fields. Since Brent and Ninian differ in quality, the two streams will not probably be mixed. By 1980, the estimated terminal capacity will be 826,000 bbl/day of crude with 476,000 bbl/day from the Brent system and 350,000 bbl/day from the Ninian system. By 1981, the projected terminal capacity will rise to 1,390,000 bbl/day, and a third pipeline might be added. The construction of processing facilities, which include crude oil stabilization, gas compression, and LPG recovery facilities, has fallen behind schedule. Analyses including boiling range, sulfur and wax contents, density, pour point, and viscosity are given for the crudes and for the gasoline, naphtha, kerosine, gas oil, and residue fractions obtained from Brent, Thistle, Dunlin, Murchison, Ninian, and Magnus fields.
