Trans-Canada Pipe Lines Ltd. plans over 1000 miles of line for Gas East Project

Trans-Canada has filed an amended application to the Canada National Energy Board to build a total of 1012 mi of main lines, laterals, sublaterals (ranging from 30 to 4 in. dia) from Quebec City to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The project would cost $357 million, excluding the subsequent expansion of upstream facilities. The plan calls for a conventional pipeline to Quebec City; a 10 million cu ft/day LNG plant with 125 million cu ft/day revaporization capacity at 1025 psig at La Martiniere, Quebec; a 330,000 bbl LNG storage tank; docking facility for loading vessels with draft up to 25 ft; facilities at Sept-Iles; and a receiving terminal with 150,000 bbl storage and 10 million cu ft/day revaporization capacity. A special 297 ft long, tug-pushed LNG carrier with four aluminum LNG containers (5000 cu m total capacity) will be available for shipments from La Martiniere to Sept-Iles. The advantages of the proposed LNG facilities are discussed and plans to extend the main pipeline from La Martiniere are described.
