This is a compilation from 1974 to 1977 of information from various contributors in the oil-producing states of U.S. (a stripper well produces 10 bbl or less per day). The number of abandonments has dropped for the sixth consecutive year. This year's 9,000 abandonments are less than half of the annual abondonments in 1971. As a corollary, the average production per well has also declined to 2.91 barrels per day. During the past year, an attempt was made to identify other marginal wells, i.e., those wells producing in excess of 10 barrels a day but in danger of being plugged and abandoned because of depth, reservoir characteristics, excessive water production, etc.
