Three witnesses spoke at these hearings which were held to examine the impact of budget cuts on DOE's efforts to enforce oil-pricing regulations. Testimony was heard on the actions taken by the Office of Special Counsel and how the remaining $165 million in the budget will be used. It was noted that formal charges of pricing violations were brought 35 times, 17 of which were settled out of court. No support has come from the Reagan administration for pursuing the remaining cases involving $8 billion in alleged overcharges. Budget cuts could prevent any further action. The hearing record includes the testimony and other communications submitted for the record. (DCK)
