Formation of MnO/sub 2/ by the reduction of Mn(VII) by sodium tetrahydroborate
This work was devoted to the study of the quantitative laws governing the reaction of potassium permanganate with sodium tetrahydroborate in weakly alkaline and weakly acidic solutions for the purpose of revealing some features characteristic of this process and of selecting the optimal conditions for the formation of manganese dioxide as a collector for sols of platinum metals when the latter are concentrated. In order to select the optimal conditions for obtaining manganese dioxide as a collector for sols of platinum metals, we investigated the influence of various factors on the process: the ratio of the concentrations of the reacting substances, the reaction time, stirring, the ambient pH, the presence of various complex-forming reagents, and the temperature.
