Reduction of TeO/sub 2/ by potassium tetrahydroborate

Journal Article · · Inorg. Mater. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5042226

The authors study the reaction of tellurium dioxide with potassium tetrahydrobate in an aqueous medium at pH 5-7, and they try to arrive at the selection of optimal conditions for the preparation of elemental tellurium. Charts present the dependencies of weight on the ratio of components, of yield on volume of water added to the mixture, on degree of conversion on time of reaction, and of yield on time of reaction. The authors conclude by recommending a method of preparing elemental tellurium by reducing its dioxide by potassium tetrahydrobate to give a yield of more than 99%.
