In 1987, Sargent and Lundy (S and L) began engineering design work as the lead architect engineer (AE) on the Yonggwang Nuclear Power Plant, Units 3 and 4 (YGN 3 and 4), for the Republic of Korea (ROK). Sargent and Lundy and the Korea Power Engineering Corporation (KOPEC) were to engineer the plant as an integrated project team under contract to the owner, Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The integrated project team activities covered the spectrum of AE design services and also included the transfer of technology for all aspects of power plant design engineering expertise. The licensing of the project was based on the USNRC Standard Review Plant (SRP), even though the plant would be located in the ROK and licensed by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS). This paper describes the fundamental parts of the plan and highlights the operator survey and task analysis elements that incorporated the unique aspects of the project.
