Improving the methods and technology of preparing coal and coal charges for coking by efficient comminution

A study of the effects of certain comminution and screening techniques on the mechanical and physical properties of the coke was presented. Specifically, finer comminution of the poorly-caking gas and lean-caking coal types with coarser comminution of the well-caking coal types was attempted. This caused an increase in the bulk density of the charge and a decrease in the electrical energy consumption but was accompanied with an increase in the complexity of washery operations. It was concluded that there was an increase in the mechanical and physical properties of the resulting coke, along with a substantial energy savings.
