Selecting an efficient technology of coal comminution for coking (a review)

The theoretical considerations presented may serve as a basis for selecting an effective method of coal charge comminution. Two methods of solving this problem may be noted. The first consists of establishing the relationship between parameters characterizing the properties of the coal and the charge preparation process and the coke quality indices by means of the well known methods of mathematical statistics. The second is analysis of the coking process and development of functional relationships (of the type presented in this article), permitting one to compute the charge comminution level to provide high technical and economic indices of the coking process, particularly the required coke strength and charge bulk density. Apparently, in both cases one should consider the proposed principles and factors determining the comminution level of the coal types and charges: their content of inert particles, the caking capacity and the system of charge preparation for coking.
