Influence of misonidazole on the radiosensitivity of a human melanoma in nude mice: time-dependent increase in surviving fraction. [/sup 137/Cs. gamma. ]

Journal Article · · Int. J. Radiat. Oncol., Biol. Phys.; (United States)
Using an in vitro colony method, we tested the effect of 1 mg/g misonidazole on a human melanoma transplanted into a nude mice. The enhancement ratios were 1.6 when the cells were plated immediately after irradiation and 2.0 when plating was done after a delay of 6 hr. Whereas repair of potentially lethal damage (PLD) was demonstrated in cells without misonidazole, with the drug the surviving fraction was the same immediately or 6 hr after irradiation. Our interpretation of this finding is discussed.
