Licensing and standardization for nuclear power plants. Hearing before the Subcommittee on Nuclear Regulation of the Committee on Environment and Public Works, United States Senate, One Hundred First Congress, Second Session, September 18, 1990
Senator Graham, Chairman, noted that this hearing will help the subcommittee determine whether there are unnecessary regulatory or statutory obstacles to the development of nuclear power that congress should remove. Five distinguished witnesses made brief statements and submitted more lengthy papers for the record, namely: (1) William H. Young, Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy, DOE; (2) James M. Taylor, Executive Director for Operations, US NRC; (3) Sherwood H. Smith Jr., Chairman, President and CEO, Carolina Power and Light Co.; (4) Dean Tousley, on behalf of the Union of Concerned Scientists; and (5) Pierre Bacher, Deputy Director, Division of Plant Design and Construction, Electricite de France. The special guest, Mr. Bacher reviewed Frances extensive nuclear program and, on request, emphasized their experience in standardization. A lengthy question/answer period followed the final witness's statement.
