pi. /sup -/C collisions with backward proton emission at 4 and 40 GeV/c

Experimental data are reported on the protons emitted backward in the laboratory frame in ..pi../sup -/-carbon collisions at 4 and 40 GeV/c. Analysis shows that the multiplicity, angular, and momentum distributions of the protons are independent of the energy of the primary ..pi../sup -/ meson. The multiplicity data reveal correlations between the protons emitted into the forward and rear hemispheres.
