Dimensions of the region from which secondary negative pions are emitted in. pi. /sup -/p,. pi. /sup -/n, and. pi. /sup -/C interactions at 40 GeV/c

The space--time characteristics of the region from which negative pions are emitted in ..pi../sup -/p, ..pi../sup -/n, and ..pi../sup -/C interactions have been determined at p = 40 GeV/c in the laboratory frame from the interference of identical pions. In the ..pi../sup -/C interactions these characteristics are found to depend on the transverse momenta of the secondary pions and on the number of interacting nucleons of the target nucleus.
