Space-time characteristics of the region of emission of secondary negative pions produced in. pi. /sup -/p interactions at 40 GeV/c

The method of interference of identical pions has been used to measure the size of the region of generation of secondary negative pions produced in ..pi../sup -/p interactions at 40 GeV/c. The results show that for a space-time description of the sources of radiation in the c.m.s. it is necessary to introduce at least two characteristic sizes: r/sub 1/approx. =ctau/sub 1/approx. =3 F and r/sub 2/approx. =ctau/sub 2/approx. =1 F. This conclusion is confirmed for various models of distribution of the sources.
