The method of interference of identical particles has been used to determine the size of the region of emission of secondary pions produced in ..pi../sup -/p, ..pi../sup -/n, and ..pi../sup -/C interactions at 40 GeV/c, for various systems of reference. It is established that for pion-nucleon interactions the minimum size of this region is manifested in the ''quark'' system of reference, which indicates a dominant role of one-quark interactions in multiple processes. In pion-nucleus collisions the minimum in the size of the secondary-pion emission region is shifted toward the center of mass of the ..pi..N, which can be interpreted as an increase of the contribution of multiquark interactions in these processes.
