On the basis of the interference of identical pions we have determined the shape and size of the region of emission of secondary ..pi../sup -/ mesons in events with various multiplicities of secondary charged particles produced in ..pi../sup -/p interactions at 40 GeV/c. We have shown that in the coordinate system related to the jet characteristics of the events, the spatial dimensions of the emission region differ substantially from the dimensions determined in the coordinate system associated with the primary-hadron collision axis. The extrema of the average values of the quantities characterizing the jet nature of the interactions considered are manifested in systems of reference which, probably, are related to quark-quark collisions of the primary hadrons.
