New borides of structural type Nd/sub 2/Ni/sub 5/B/sub 4/

Journal Article · · Inorg. Mater. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5848570

The authors determine the crystal structure of single-crystal Nd/sub 2/Ni/sub 5/B/sub 4/. The unit-cell parameters of borides with this structural type are shown. Atomic coordinates in the La/sub 2/Ni/sub 5/B/sub 4/ structure are presented. The calculated x-ray pattern for La/sub 2/Ni/sub 5/B/sub 4/ is shown. The study performed here establishes that the previously known borides LaNi/sub 2/B/sub 2/, CeNi/sub 2/B, and Pr/sub 3/Ni/sub 5/B/sub 4/ actually correspond to the composition R/sub 2/Ni/sub 5/B/sub 4/ (R = La, Ce, Pr) and all three bodies have the structural type of Nd/sub 2/Ni/sub 5/B/sub 4/.
