The alloys were investigated by x-ray and microstructural analysis and compared with La--Ni--B and Ce--Ni--B systems. Results show that more compounds are formed in the system Y--Ni--B than in the systems La--Ni--B and Ce--Ni--B. All the compounds in the systems (Y, La, Ce)--Ni--B contain less than 50 at. percent rare earth elements. A feature common to all these systems is formation of compounds with structures of the CeNi/sub 5/B and CeNi/sub 12/B/sub 6/ types. An increase in the rare earth content leads to formation of compounds with different structural types in these systems. (JRD)
