The conditions of crystallization of bismuth orthotantalate single crystals in the systems Bi/sub 2/O/sub 3/-Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/-H/sub 2/O, Bi/sub 2/O/sub 3/-Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/-KHF/sub 2/-H/sub 2/O, and Bi/sub 2/O/sub 3/-Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/-KHF/sub 2/-H/sub 2/O/sub 2/-H/sub 2/O were studied, and the fields of phase formation were constructed in the coordinates molar ratio Bi/sub 2/O/sub 3//Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/ - solvent concentration. The kinetic laws for the production of bismuth orthotantalate as a function of temperature and solvent concentration were determined. Investigation of the physical properties of BiTaO/sub 4/ revealed that it is an antiferromagnet.
