Anne M. Gorsuch, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), defended the agency's performance during the first 13 months of the Reagan administration. Support from the US Chamber of Commerce was challenged by the Environmental Industry Council, the Council of State Governments' Eastern Regional Conference Task-Force on the Environment, and several environmental and citizen groups. Statements of Senators and Representatives were also critical of current environmental policy, and emphasized its importance as a bipartisan concern. Additional communications and three appendices follow the statements and testimony of the 20 witnesses. (DCK)
