The total 1982 US natural gas picture is presented, focusing on the areas of supply, consumption, and prices. Texas and Louisiana, which together supplied about 70% of the total market, were the production leaders. A drop in consumption in the industrial sector was ascribed to gas price increases and residual oil price decreases, conservation efforts, and a sluggish economy. The average wellhead price of natural gas in 1982 was $2.41/1000 CF in contrast to 1981's $1.98/1000 CF. Two recent publications detailing natural gas use are reviewed: DOE's Natural Gas: Use and Expenditures and Gas Facts issued annually by the American Gas Association. 11 figures, 7 tables.
