Recent US natural gas supply, consumption, and price data

Domestic natural gas production of 20.2 trillion cubic feet (TCF) and consumption of 19.26 TCF in 1981 was lower than the previous year. Texas, Louisiana, California, and Illinois consumed 48% of the delivered gas. Prices rose during 1981 to an average wellhead price of $2063/1000 CF. Prices charged to consumers continued to grow for each sector. The contribution of natural gas to primary energy peaked in 1972 at 36% of production and 33% of consumption. The preliminary 1981 data show a decline to 30% of production and 26% of consumption. 8 figures, 6 tables. (DCK)
