Influence of anions on anodic passivation of zirconium in solutions of certain salts

In order to determine the influence of anions on anodic passivation of zirconium in solution of certain salts, experiments were made with zirconium iodide in 1 N aqueous solutions of KCl, KNO/sub 3/, K/sub 2/SO/sub 4/, KH/sub 2/PO/sub 4/ + K/sub 2/HPO/sub 4/ at constant pH. The potentials are given relative to a silver chloride electrode. The data show that the formation of an anodic film on zirconium is characterized by a continuous decrease in the capacitative impedance and an increase in the ohmic component. Anodically oxidized zirconium depends on the anionic composition of the solutions.
