The adsorption of 2,2'-dipyridyl and 1,10-phenanthroline on a mercury electrode from solutions of K/sub 2/SO/sub 4/, KCl, KNO/sub 3/, KBr, and KI was studied. The nature of the anion of the supporting electrolyte substantially influences the adsorption behavior of heterocyclic amines. The sharpest change in the adsorption properties of 2,2'-dipyridyl and 1,10-phenanthroline was detected after a change to the iodide ion, which interacts specifically with the surface of the mercury electrode. For analytical utilization of the electrocatalytic reactions with the participation of 2,2'-dipyridyl and 1,10-phenanthroline adsorbed on the electrode, it is advisable to use solutions of K/sub 2/SO/sub 4/.
