Journal Article · · Sol. Age; (United States)

Designs and materials for constructing an attached solar greenhouse are discussed. Alternative designs for building the greenhouse out from the south line with a minimum of vertical travel are illustrated. An 8 by 16 ft double-glazed solar greenhouse with 50% end wall glazing and 120 ft/sup 2/ south glazing can produce 4.5 x 10/sup 6/ Btu heat gain, for a greenhouse of this size, 2,400 Btu//sup 0/F of storage provided by five 55 gal water-filled drums are required. Suitable glazing materials include glass, insulating glass, acrylic, fiberglass reinforced polyester, polyethylene film, and special double glazings. Other building materials are recommended.
